My Favourite Netflix Shows

You seem kind of lost in life if you're not subscribed to netflix lately, shows are being put online all in one season or released week by week in the easy format of Netflix and I couldn't be happier that this is a thing. I've been the biggest tv show & film junkie for years, easily hooked. When I was 15, films were my thing each week I'd be purchasing a new DVD and now it's tv series. Some I'm a little late on the hype, others I'm there right with the rest of them! And while everyone else is sharing their favourite netflix shows I wanted to do the exact same. Starting from the first series I watched to the latest!

Life Unexpected
This was shown on E4 a few years ago, I remember it was shown for around a month and I just didn't see it again. I'd watched a few episodes and thought nothing of it. Last year I had a free month of Netflix and spent the whole time watching children's films, a documentary on elmo and Life Unexpected and what a great month it was. Sadly at the time I couldn't afford to continue the subscription. Anyway, onto the series. It's only two seasons long and for everyone who loves a good teenage drama, it's one of those. The series follows a teen Lux who finds her parents who gave her up at birth and all the adventerous of her parents actually acting like her parents and all of them slightly struggling to cope. It's a slightly tacky tv series but I was hooked all the same, it was cancelled at the end of season 2 (which I didn't know when I was watching) and practically cried. But they ended it in such a nice way, it also gave me that little bit of closure (I need that in every end of a series)!

Gossip Girl
Another series I tried to watch when it was first released but at the time the only tv show I had on my mind was One Tree Hill and nothing compared to my love for Peyton Swayer & Lucas Scott when I was 16. But I was told by a dear friend Sian to give Gossip Girl a chance, because at the time she was watching it for the first time too! Gossip Girl follows an online blog which releases stories of Upper East Side teenage kids in New York (yes, another US teen drama). At first I was just obsessed with how pretty Blair & Serena were and I just wanted to know more about their story and then Chuck and Nate also became an obsessed and I just couldn't stop watching. It took me a little over 2 months to watch 6 seasons, just like Life Unexpected...it ended perfectly and again I cried. But I knew it was coming to an end and I wouldn't of wanted it any other way. My heart still dropped a little thinking about the ending, IN LOVE!

Pretty Little Liars
Let's be honest, any UK fan of PLL was watching this through streaming and Netflix just made our lives that little bit easier. I fall in and out of love with PLL between each episode, just because the story has become a little long winded to me but by the end of each episode I'm hooked and in love all over again. The series follows the story of 4 teenage girls (another teen series and the last one for now!!), it follows the story of 4 teenage girls who receive messages, and other such things from some mystery person who leaves their mark as -A. each and every time after their best friend Alison Deliretis goes missing. This has a more thrilling concept compared to the other teen dramas. It keeps you on edge during every episode, you get close to finding out who's A and then it completely changes. I've been watching it for the last two years and I can honestly say I'm still as confused as I was when it first started but I still can't stop myself and continue to watch until I understand everything.

White Collar
Taking a leap from the teen drama's, this is a little different. Every watched a tv show where the FBI  work with a con man? Nope, neither did I! Me and Tom needed something a little in the middle of our likes. If you couldn't tell, I like teen dramas (ha ha) and Tom likes action & adventure and all that kind of stuff, so complete opposites. I'd been wanting to watch this series for a while (Peyton Sawyer from One Tree Hill is in a few episodes) and when I spotted it on Netflix we decided to give it a chance. It follows con artist Neal Caffrey and F.B.I agent Peter as they solve crimes and all complicated crimes that happened. Were still only a few seasons into this (and netflix doesn't show them all, oddly). I like this series, mainly for Neal Caffrey...he's funny, pretty and wear a hat very well!

Ru Paul's Drag Race
I watched season 6 in the space of 2 days? Sadly haven't watched other since. Working in a gay nightclub on weekends (bet you never knew that about me), means LOTS of drag queens and let me be honest it's the best thing ever!! I've watched Adore Delano, Bianca Del Rio (my fav), met Haus of Edwards and just before I got into the show missed the chance to meet Michelle Visage (literally still heartbroken about this). Since watching only one season, I really do need to get watching the rest of the seasons. So if you don't know, Ru Paul -very well known drag queen- host a contest, very much like Americas next top model, giving the queens challenges to complete before choosing who stays and who leaves each episode. I just love the sass and the attitude of them all and it just makes them all so entertaining!

Once Upon A Time
Hands up if you're a Disney & fairy tale fan? Then you're just like me. It took me a while to consider watching this (I'm not too sure why) and it's this has become that programmes that I'll watch every so often. I'm not sure why, I love the series but for some reason I'm just not hooked. Well, I am, I'm just not hooked in the way that I'll spend a few hours watching it at a time. So the story line follows Emma Swan who ends up the town of Storybrooke, where she meets her son. Everyone in the town of storybrooke are trapped in two worlds, their real world and their fantasy world. Her son Henry is the only one who's consciously aware of this and follows everyone's stories through his book. I really do need to watch this some more soon, as I'm only on season two, I'm practically half way through and I should be caught up in no time!
Orange is The New Black
EVERYONE is obsessed with OITNB and I'm a little late to this hype (just like the rest). I'd watched a few episodes over the past couple weeks but last weekend I was having a sick day, didn't leave my bed for anything other than toilet and food breaks. OITNB became my best friend, I watched around 10 episodes in the space of the day as well as a separate film on Netflix. I doubt I'll be completely up to date by the 12th when the third season begins but I'm sure I'll get pretty damn close. This series follows Piper a lady who's sent to prison after a crime she'd committed 10 years before. It follows her struggling to get used to the women around her, trying to fit in and all sorts of things. I love the humour of this series the most, it's so subtle in so many ways, but with the humour brings some true to heart issues that these women deal with and share the stories behind why some of them have been sent to prison. My favourite woman so far, has to be...actually I don't have a favourite I love them all!!

And there you have it, a little insight to the way I spend my time on Netflix. Binge watching teen drama's and extremely popular tv series. If you're interested in knowing my favourite films on netflix I'd be sure to upload a similar post to this since. What's your favourite netflix shows?

  1. I've been loving Once since it started and have followed it since day one! It's a superbly written show with a fantastic cast and what a bloody brilliant way to bring the fairy tales back to life? I LOVE how they link all the different fairy tales and characters together, always with a twist. The latest season was bloody brilliant and the finale was jaw dropping!

  3. I've recently dove into the world of Netflix and the first series I've watched on it was Orange is the New Black and it's safe to say I'm 100% hooked on it now. I'm so excited that season 3 has just come out but I'm trying to salvage it and watch one episode a night which is hard.

I watched Once Upon a Time when it was first on the telly but kept missing episodes here and there so I think I might start that from the beginning again, I really love programmes like that.

Thank you for this post, I might start watching a few of the series that you've recommended and see what they're like.
