OUR WEEK IN ALBUFEIRA, PORTUGAL.

It's been two months since our holiday to Albufeira, Portugal and wow where has the time gone? The entire summer has flown by in this time, we've both worked hectic hours throughout the school holiday break and I don't think I've had a second to really reminisce on this trip. So I guess you're joining me on my lil trip down memory lane.

With all my latest travel posts I've done daily reviews and that's meant daily posts and whilst I could possibly stretch this week into seven posts, I'm saying you guys the trouble of having to wait and saving myself the hassle. Plus, this week was a very relaxed holiday, we didn't take any excursions and we didn't really want to spend any extra pennies on activities if we didn't have to - so personally I don't think I could write seven posts about how we sat by the pool or walked into the town...trust me, even I'd be bored by that.

We spent the week at the Real Hotel BellaVista on my auntie and her wife's high recommendations of the place, and I'm taking their word for it as they've been here on three holidays now (!!!) and honestly I understand why now. It's a 4* hotel, we had breakfast every morning and we had access to 3(!) pools, we only used the one but the option was there.

Being as I have experience lots of anxiety based around travelling over the years I wanted to go on this holiday with a clear mind and a 'sort of' plan of things to experience/expect and places we'd want to visit.

Thankfully my aunt was on her a-game for this, she made me lists and even drew me a lil' map to find our way from our hotel > old town AND new town and if it wasn't for her doing these little things I'd have been a complete wreck on our first day.

Yeah it's already been two months yet I've barely told anyone what our week away was like, I was sort of keeping it all ready for this lil' blog post you're about to read. So. Are you ready to see everything we got up too on our holiday because I can't keep it from you any longer?

MONDAY.
The holiday started on Sunday as we were all packed up and met with J's brother and his family, we spent the day altogether before spending the evening watching films & love island - realistically this day I was filled with so much anxiety, so I was quiet disconnected for the majority of this day, soz guys.

Monday was J's 28th birthday and we were waking up at 4am and yep, you can imagine how difficult it was. We travelled with Jet 2 & arrived in Faro, Portugal, found our transfer and we were settled into our hotel by lunch time. Once we'd got settled in our hotel room, my aunt had given us instruction to head to the supermarket between old & new town, to save us some money on snacks & alcohol throughout the week, whilst we were down there we found a lil' cafe Melania's for a very basic lunch...obviously I had my lunch with a tequila sunrise, ya know to mark the occasion.

We'd basically spend our first getting to know our surroundings, checked out the beach and grabbed a slushy from Sailors, a cute little ice cream parlour.

Luckily for me though old town albueira is filled with ice cream shops so we were spoilt for choice all week long.

TUESDAY.
Being as this was our first full day we took full advantage of everything, we arrived for breakfast with about 20mins to spare before they started closing everything off (ngl, we pushed our limited every morning, waking up was tough. OK!). As we'd already seen old town on our first day we took a walk into new town, our hotel was literally central between the two and took a 20 minutes in either direction, so it wasn't too far our for us.

New town is definitely aimed at a certain crowd and a young couple looking for a relaxing holiday didn't fit that 'criteria'. The place was filled with more bars and pubs than anything else so it was definitely something out of our comfort zone.

Nevertheless, we continued through the strip just to check out what they had to offer and finally found the beach and stopped off for lunch at Borda Agua which was just on the beach front...I'm not ashamed to say that I ordered a vodka slushy drink @ 1200 - so good! On our way back to our hotel we stopped off at Route 66 and had some ice cold ciders.

Tbh the rest of the day we chilled by the poolside before heading to Cabana Fresca for J's celebrations. This was at the top of my aunts recommendations and it did not disappoint, it was beautiful!? We had sangria, chose a sharing platter which was the most delicious steak with all the trimmings and we both had the best deserts - J would highly highly recommend the profiteroles!

WEDNESDAY.
We kind of gotten comfortable with our surroundings by the third day, so we took it super chilled, I was determined to spend time each day reading my book and topping up my tan - and that's exactly what we did. We headed back down to the old town and walked along the cliff side of Pescadores beach which had some gorgeous views; it just felt bloody dangerous.

Although we had a pretty slow day in comparison, I can honestly say that this was one of my favourite evenings of the entire holiday! We picked Urban Pizza for tonights dinner and the food was so simple but it was pizza and we loved it, we had a side of chips (yum) and I paired mine with a cocktail or three...

We'd spent the majority of this evening talking about our teen years and discussing the fact we could've met 7 years sooner if only we'd bumped into each other in the nightclub we both went to every weekend in Birmingham. I was nervous about trying the nightlife but neither of us were ready for this night to end & found a quaint little bar playing live music and continued our evening at Epic (the backyard bar), the bar staff served us right at the table and we didn't need to move all night, the band was playing cover songs of 'pop/rock hits' and it was so much fun and we left before we'd drank all our euro's away, oops!

We also picked up a cheeky mcdonald's to take back 20 nugs to our room, ya know to ease the hangover in the morning.

THURSDAY.
I won't lie, this was one of my worst days of the week, my anxiety was at the worst it had been all week so we made the decision to make the day as chilled as possible. We spent majority of the day in our room, on the balcony and just hiding away from the world - something I've probably not mention too often is how much of an angel J is, I'm having a shit day and he just does everything he can to make me feel better.

I'd seen a poster about an Abba tribute band at Amoras in new town, unfortunately I hadn't been able to check there timing, couldn't find anywhere reasonable to eat beforehand and just felt too uncomfortable in the area to stick around - so we just sacked the night off and watched Love Island and ordered room service to our room...I told you J's a angel!?

FRIDAY.
Overall we were fairly unimpressed with new town throughout this whole holiday, it just wasn't our atmosphere and decided we were done with it. SO, I'm not too sure how we ended up back there the following day.

But J has been telling me about how he'd been somewhere near us in Albufeira when he was a child, so we went on a lil' hunt and found the hotel and beach spot that he'd spent time in as a child - and ya guessed it, it was in new town! Thankfully it was a little further down and the part of the beach we found was quiet in comparison.

Of course for the evening we ended up back in old town and had dinner in a little bar and then found ourselves spending so many of our euros and a good couple of hours at rock cafe I think we'd continued from the night before and just found a cosy spot to drink and get that time to properly chat - we've been together for less than a year so we've still got so much to learn about each other and it's evenings like this when we get those opportunities and it's why these evenings become some of my favourite memories.

SATURDAY.

Excuse me whilst I try and remember everything about this day...I'd written notes for every day of our trip (for this post specifically) but for some reason completely blanked on any notes for today, so we're completely trusting muscle memory...which as of lately, I don't have.

As far as I can remember we spent the majority of this day pretty chilled out, we spent the morning on the balcony of our room and read our books and actually spent a couple hours by the pool, I don't know if it's just me but I get so body conscious when away that I hate being on the poolside for too long in fears of people making opinions...?

We took a lil' walk down to the cutest ice cream shop, sat outside with an old couple (ya know, witnessed what we'd look like in 40 years or so) and headed back to get ready for an evening out. We took a chance on a steakhouse as we'd enjoyed it at another restaurant so much on the Tuesday - but fyi, it was terrible, we quickly ate up and then left for a walk round the town.

SUNDAY.

I don't think I can begin to describe how sad I felt on our final day, I'd spent the entire week completely chilled, enjoying our holiday and our last day just reminded me how I was so close to going back to reality and that really sucked. Again, we were pretty chilled, spent time by the pool after breakfast, found ourselves a kebab house for lunch and literally did nothing more until our evening.

We began our night pretty early with the mind set we wanted to get some final snaps at the beach (gah, I'm such a lil blogger) and headed our for dinner.

I've started a tradition with my family/anyone I go away with and it's on the final night we head back to our favourite restaurant to enjoy one last fav meal - unfortunately for us our favourite meal was just a little out of budget so we went back to urban pizza, I mean luckily it was still one of our top choices from the week but it was that steak from cabana Fresca, I'm telling you guys it was insane. We had more pizza, more cocktails and one last wonder round old town before heading back to our hotel room ready for our early start the next morning.

Well done if you've actually managed to read through all of that - I am impressed!

This week away was everything I needed for our first trip away, I felt so calm and at ease. Whenever I had any doubt J took complete control, did everything he needed to make me feel better and let me strop when it was necessary. He didn't mind when I needed a chilled day and was up for any adventure I suggested, the whole week was overall a massive success and I honestly think it's all down to this guy - he's a top egg is our J.

We have so many more plans and trips for the rest of 2019 and so many more to come over the years and guys I can't bloody wait.

What's been your favourite holiday memory? When is your next trip?
